Showing Your Creativity...You Can Do It! Ok? Go!
We can all be creative, don’t you think? Putting together amazing campaigns with cool ideas and products to capture the audience’s attention is something I love to do. Coming up with “the one”, that one incredible promotional idea is a total rush. But, unfortunately, even “the one” sometimes ends up never seeing the light of day. The idea is great, but for some reason, the project never goes further, and ends up shelved in a file on the computer.
For me, there are times, at the last minute, I second guess myself that my project isn’t quite perfect. I tell myself it could be better by a change here or there, thus putting it into an endless loop and remaining in limbo. Then, I convince myself that no one is going to like the idea. More times than I care to admit, I wonder if my idea will be considered too different, too cheap, too difficult, or too expensive.
But what if the unexpected is actually the answer after all? If you’ve never seen the music video from OK Go, called Here It Goes Again (video below if you have not seen it), take a minute to check it out! In my opinion, this outrageous music video, with its simple, low-budget quality and treadmill choreography, is the absolute epitome of creativity! OK Go put up a tarp behind eight treadmills, and spent about a week and a half week putting this video together. They took an idea and ran with it, welcoming the fact that it seemed a little absurd or maybe even silly. But, as it turns out, they knocked their crazy idea out of the park! They crushed it to the tune of over 45 million YouTube views. Since Here It Goes Again, they continue to push the bounds of creativity in their videos.
Watching Here It Goes Again made me realize that my own doubts are just that… doubts. Their video isn’t perfect, but it was made because they wanted to do something different. And they weren’t worried about how it would be received. As for me, I love their video! So now, I’m inspired to dust off some of my own shelved ideas and make them happen. I refuse to let doubt stand in the way of showing creativity. Are you ready to do the same?
