Never Be Afraid To Learn
Today I received an invitation to an industry educational boot camp called Skucamp. Seeing this reminded me of how important it is to continue to learn, no matter your industry or position. I can’t quite understand why someone wouldn’t want to learn and expand their knowledge, whether through books, seminars, trade publications, podcasts or one of the many other options available. I recall being at our national expo not long ago where I overheard people talking about our industry certification. This is something you can earn by learning through educational seminars and events. They were wondering why they needed the certification, and in small order, why they even needed to take these seminars. There wasn’t anything new for them to learn.
As Bart Simpson would say, “Au contraire, mon frère”. To me, learning isn’t just sitting in a seminar for the sake of sitting in a seminar. Learning is working, understanding, comprehending, and implementing ideas and plans to grow yourself in what you do and for your business. Over the past 5-7 years, what I have learned through books, podcasts and educational events has been immeasurable.
When listening to a new book or attending an event, taking away just a nugget or two of great information can more than make it worth the cost. What I have learned has changed the course of how I work with clients, ideas I present and being able to come up with stellar marketing and branding techniques. I’ve befriended some of the most knowledgable and creative people in our industry - all from our common interest in sharing and learning. I have made an investment in myself. Now it is your turn. Take the time and commitment to invest in yourself!
Skucamp, here I come!
